I'm at work and haven't had time to skim through everthing so please forgive me if this has already been posted and please direct me to where I can read more..
when you open up a torrent, it lists all the files in the torrent..supposing I only want a few of the tv performances and can identify them from the files listed..can I download just those particular files or am I required to download the whole torrent??

It depends on the format...if they're ISO or VOB files, you'll have to download the whole torrent and burn it to a DVD or mount it to a virtual drive. If there's just several AVI or other movie files, you can just download the ones you want.
I guess in the case of VOB, you could download some VOBs, and open them with a VOB compatible player, like VLC, but that would require you to know which parts of the torrent you want correspond to which VOB file, and there's always the chance that what you want is split over multiple VOBs.
