The next couple of shows are Paul's recordings ... I don't think I even went to them. All the shows up until now had been within an reasonable drive of London, so a day trip was the order of the day. The next shows were up in the North East and were starting to get far enough away from London that driving back down after the show was going to be hard going. We were still fairly new to following a band around, and hadn't really considered staying in hotels yet. In any case, Paul's family come from Newcastle, which would make a good base to reach the North East shows. But they were at the weekend, and we needed to set up our stall in Camden to get a bit of dosh to support all this traveling. So I volunteered to stay and do the stall , while he did the North East shows ... and then the following weekend, he'd do the stall while I went to stay with some Friends in Manchester to do that show. In subsequent tours we made sure that neither of us missed out.
So ... there's not much I can tell you about this one. Recorded by Paul using Sony Professional Walkman onto Metal tape ... not sure of the Mic.

True, but I'd imagine this one is a lower gen source. Either the master or a 1st gen probably?

I think there's a lot of us that would prefer this over an unknown cdr version though...?
Thanks again, Steve.

I certainly hope it is of lower gen but it is the same size as the other which makes me believe they are one and the same.

Even if that CD-R was made from a tape copy bought directly in the stall of Steve & Paul, this seed is still one generation lower. Since, moreover, the lineage for this one is certain, it is definitely preferable over the other.
Thanks a lot, Steve!

I did wonder about stuff that had already appeared on here and whether I should skip certain shows. But in the end I thought that as all these are from the master tape, you could be certain that they wasn't a better version. Even a CD-R copy may have some copy errors on it ... and more likely, some of the others may be nth gen copies or from a different source. I doesn't take that much time to download a CDs worth of data ... so download and compare and chuck out the version you like least.
I've decided just to do things chronologically ... and that will mean duplication of stuff that's already on here on occasion. So hope that's not too disappointing

I don't mind the duplication- I'd always much rather have versions where the generations are known, especially masters. I suspect most of us on here feel the same.
Thanks for giving all of us one more reason to look forward to Fridays.

It's always best to get something straight from the master. I think anything that Steve posts here will be better than other effort of the same shows.
