Seeders are users who have a full copy of the torrent available to upload to someone else (ie 100%). Until you have downloaded the files you are a leecher, as you using other people's bandwidth to download.
You can only download something if there are seeders available to download from. Your download speed depends on how fast the users upload speeds are. This can vary a lot at times, it's almost like saying how long is a piece of string!
As you use utorrent: when you download something does a blue down arrow should appear next to the name of the torrent when you started it?

Hi Burned,
If you're new to torrents then the best advice I can give is just to be patient. BatnaMMV is right; your download speed will be limited by the speed of the person sending it to you. Eventually though it'll finish downloading - just let uTorrent worry about it.
The more recent contributions on this forum are generally quicker to download as more people are seeding them.

Ok, I'm having real trouble downloading and uploading. According to this site there are seeders (and leechers) available but for some reason BitTorrent can't find them most of the time.

If you are firewalled this can prevent you from entering the stream. If you need a firewall running try port-forwarding. If you are using a torrent client that gives you the option of using different ports try using them.

Thanks for responding. It's not my firewall but I'm trying a different port now. One of the torrents started working earlier, let's see what happens next.
