So it's probably obvious, but "Vauxhall and I" could have been the BEST RECORD OF ALL TIME with a better producer. Discuss?

i think you need to elaborate a little first.

Lillywhite pretty much mastered it to be very quiet and subdued. It's a moody, yet beautiful record. But just listen to the energy of the 3 tracks here from the record, and I think it shows that while Vauxall is quite good, it could have been unbelievalbe with more bite in the production stages. I always like hearing guitars.

Vauxhall is my personal favorite, though I agree it could have been better with a different producer. It needs to be a little louder, punchier. If Mick Ronson hadn't passed away in early 1993, he would have certainly produced and I think we would have had a true masterpiece if he had lived to make it.
Blameless, this is an excellent post... I remember hearing these tracks on cassette originally... but many songs still exist from this session... were tracks 4-7 omitted for a reason? Thanks again.

Wow, these alternate versions of the Vauxhall tracks are amazing, so full of energy and bite as you say robbo. The guitars here really push the tracks onto another level for me. Personally I always held a small grudge against Lillywhite for how he produced the album The La's made, but that's another story...
Patrick, can you remember what other tracks you heard on the cassette?

Great post, thank you!
I've never heard Oh Phoney in such a good quality, too bad that it's not the full version ...

Blameless - may I ask what tracks 4 -7 are
The original tracks 4-7 were just some other Moz rarities (at the time) that I had transferred onto a cd. They've all been released or shared since so I didn't bother posting them. I'm not holding back anything exciting!

Bill, have a look at the technical help section of this forum. You'll need some free torrent software but the instructions are all in the help section.
