Notes:
Here's a damn good show - the last one on the summer '85 US tour. The band is in great form - there's a real sophistication
to both Morrissey's singing and Mr. Marr's playing at this point.
Looks like the set is missing the last encore - Barbarism Begins At Home - other than that, the set is complete. If you ask
me (which I understand you haven't), it ain't no great loss. Too much of Morrissey yelping makes me want to kick the cat.
We are starting on the slow, dreadful slide in quality of Smiths shows that I have to share. This one is comparable to
Manchester, England - October 30, 1986. Maybe even a bit better, as the bass is quite clear, and there is only one guitarist
at this point. In fact, I've changed my mind - it IS better than 10.30.86. So if you liked that one, you'll lurve this one.
But in the interest of full disclosure, I have included a very small 128 kbp/s snippet for your window-shopping pleasure.
Will attach it as a comment to the torrent as well.
Hope you enjoy the show. Would appreciate any comments you have to give.
And a big shout-out to the wonderful human beings who are sharing their Smiths troves - particulary dblighty, restless, and
catalina. Think there are a few others out there - just can't remember your names at the moment - sorry . . .
----
here's a blurb from passionsjustlikemine.com:
Coming on stage, Morrissey greeted the audience "Good evening!" before launching into a slow but passionate version of
"Meat Is Murder". After "Nowhere Fast" in which the Smiths experienced a few technical difficulties, Morrissey apologised
"Sorry about all those mishaps and squeaks... and err... sorry about the songs, this is the way it has to be." Soon after,
"Stretch Out And Wait" was introduced with "This song is called 'Stretch Out And Wait'." After "Still Ill" Morrissey said
"Thank you friends." In "Jeane", Johnny included a few bars of the Beatles' "Day Tripper", as he had been known to do at
the time.
Returning for the second of three encores, Morrissey exclaimed "We didn't expect this, thank you!" before going into
"William It Was Really Nothing". Two songs later the Smiths did a very rocking version of "Miserable Lie" in which
Morrissey took a few liberties with the melody of certain lines. For the third encore the Smiths did a version of
"Barbarism Begins At Home" which lasted fifteen minutes. It was to be that song's last ever live performance. The show then
ended in a massive stage invasion.
