The Smiths
Live in Rome 85
Tendetrisce, Rome, Italy
14th May 1985 Source: ??? > CD-R > EAC WAVs > FLAC Confirmed as non-MP3 derived, by Tau Analyzer 1.2. Torrent created on 30th January 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Release Notes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sound quality isn't great here. One for the completists. I received this CD-R in a trade, so I can't be sure that it's the 'Live in
Rome 85' which Stephane mentions, but since the tracklist is the same I'm
going to assume it's that bootleg. 01. Intro
02. William, It Was Really Nothing
03. Nowhere Fast
04. I Want The One I Can't Have
05. How Soon Is Now
06. Stretch Out And Wait
07. Rusholme Ruffians
08. Hand In Glove
09. Still Ill
10. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
11. Handsome Devil
12. This Charming Man
13. Gap

///You've Got Everything Now For the Smiths' first visit to Italy, the setlist was slightly modified. "This
Charming Man" which had more or less been dropped in 1985 was reintroduced but
regular "Barbarism Begins At Home" was skipped. The rarely played "You've Got
Everything Now" was also given to the Italians. The Smiths were not playing with their instruments in Italy, which would
explain the slightly different performances of certain of the songs. The band
was extremely well received. The Italians cheered profusely and sang along
many songs. This much to Morrissey's surprise it seems, as he said, while the
crowd were cheering after "How Soon Is Now?", "I didn't really expect this,
so thank you... Do you understand?". The ending of "Still Ill" and the
beginning of "Handsome Devil" were voxless, probably because Morrissey was
struggling with fans on stage. Morrissey wasn't overall very talkative, he seemed to be under the impression
no one could understand him. He commented "I hope you understand us, I truly
don't." Besides those comments and the occasional thank you, he only
announced two songs, with lines such as "This is our single, 'Shakespeare's
Sister'" and "This is our first record, 'Hand In Glove'." He didn't do many
lyric changes, but still sang "You've got nothing now" in "You've Got
Everything Now". BOOTLEGS A selection of tracks from this concert were released on a vinyl bootleg
titled "Live In Rome 85". Unfortunately the sound is not the best, the track
listing is incomplete and many songs are faded out early. Track listing:
Intro / "William It Was Really Nothing" / "Nowhere Fast" / "I Want The One I
Can't Have" / "How Soon Is Now?" / "Stretch Out And Wait" / "Rusholme
Ruffians" / "Hand In Glove" / "Still Ill" / "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable
Now" / "Handsome Devil" / "This Charming Man" / "You've Got Everything Now". However an official cd version is circulated among bootleg collectors. The
sound is still not the best, but at least the whole show is included and none
of the tracks are altered. MP3s of the latter can be found on file sharing
networks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi there, I have just found the full concert of this gig, and it looks like the "official" release as mentioned above. My only concern is that the music has a cut-off line at 17,500Hz, see the picture below:

I would prefer to wait to see if it's MP3 sourced first.

If you're talking about the source posted to DaD, it's mp3 sourced- I just checked.

Is it not possible that this came from Master cassette > MiniDisc > WAV > FLAC > everybody here. Without knowing the actual lineage, we can't say MP3 for sure but it's more than likely :(

I wonder if the transfer to minidisc put it in Sony's compressed ATRAC format?
