Morrissey: 'Longevity has shocked me'
Saturday, April 30 2011, 06:07 BST
Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has revealed his "surprise" over his longevity in the music business.
Promoting compilation album The Very Best of Morrissey on Radio 4, the singer admitted that he is relieved difficult periods in his life haven't affected his popularity.
He said: "I'm very surprised it's lasted so long, especially shall we say under the circumstances as it hasn't been the easiest journey but I'm very surprised.
"Initially I thought maybe if I could do one or two albums, that would be extraordinary. To me singing is the ultimate power and the ultimate form of expression, and that's the only thing I wanted to do."
Reflecting on the transition between The Smiths and his solo career, the star added: "Well, to me the whole thing is seamless really and people talk about Smiths songs and they talk about solo songs but I don't really see any difference."

He was on Radio 2 this afternoon too, just got into the car as it was about to start.
Dermot Leary I think the interviewer's name was.
Was the usual nonsense Moz stuff about how he's never ever happy, never "lets his hair down", never does anything, never eats, never has anyone over for food.... Zzzzzz.
Said he never watches telly then slagged off some British TV newsreaders, Coronation Street.....
Said he'd been offered appearances in Eastenders, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale (British TV soaps) but had refused.
Played a few tracks off his latest compilation, Girl Least Likely To & Interlude.

I think he'd have been better off in Friends really, he'd be ridiculous guesting in a soap opera.

That Manning thing is on one of the video torrents here i think.
If a ten ton truck had have crashed into him the truck would've come off worse.
