Unfortunately you used for version titles the incorrect labels from Analog Loyalist. Most of them are incorrect. He has renamed as 'first take' recordings that are not first takes, and the one that really is ("There Is A Light..." - take 1) was renamed otherwise. The proper labels are the ones that I gave, and which Steve has used for his stereo version of these files. They come from the official record company cds.

Ask isn't THE pre-remix version though surely, just a pretty basic run-through?

there is no possible way that version of Ask is the pre-remix version. its got to be just an early run through. if the record company called it the pre-remix version, then they're typical record company suits who dont have a clue.

I'd agree. It doesn't sound like a pre-remix. Johnny only uses four chords; it's missing all the flourishes present in the final version.

I viewed the record company titles with a block of salt. Goddard was the final arbiter; putting two-and-two together with the obvious audio, and his written descriptions, made the most sense. Record companies are clueless (if they weren't, we wouldn't be discussing this as a bootleg but rather been safely home with these since 2001 or thereabouts on official WEA product).

Actually no. Warner has been trying to convince Morrissey and Marr to release that sort of stuff for years, but it's never convenient for one or the other. The reason why this hasn't been released yet is Morrissey and Marr.
My mistake, Ask is indeed not the pre-remix version. It's an early take. When I sat down and compared the bootleg versions with the various outtakes of "Ask", I found one thing for wrote down another. Sorry for the confusion.

Suspect Moz not wanting to put money in Mike Joyce's pocket is one of the main reasons, which is a shame.

Interesting. So I guess it was him and Arkwright that put these aside when remastering.
