Hi there,
my overview is gone, since i have more than just a handful of bootlegs.
It's more a compulsive hoarding than a structured collecting. There are around 400 GB of bootlegs waiting to get sorted.
Every artist/band has his own folder.
I began to list around hundred of Jimi Hendrix Bootlegs for example, but i had no idea how to compare new ones with existing ones.
I have a little program named "dir-it!" to list the root of every folder in "excel",the rest i fill in for myself.
Is there a way to sort every new bootleg automatically?
Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you looking for a program to automatically rename directories according to their bootleg contents?

Maybe,if there's a program like that,i will test it.
It's no problem to list all bootlegs ordered by artist/date for example, but i have no idea how to compare new ones with an existing list.
It's easy to keep the overview, when there are two new shows a week, but when there are minimum 20 from various artists,it's impossible to manage.

Thanks,DavidA.
This way i've began to list my Hendrix-shows:
http://img840.imageshack.us/i/b2001.jpg/
The main problem,to compare an existing register with a bunch of new stuff,i maybe solve that way:
I'm parking new stuff elsewhere before i arrange it in a list.
New downloads stay in the µTorrent-folder "no group" and get moved to the right folder, when i sorted it in the equal register.
But it's still to circuitous.
In fact i need a program, that monitored a folder and indicates me new roots (E:\The Smiths...),after it compares the root of all stuff in one folder with the roots in line B in the list.

I do it pretty much the same way as DavidA. E.g., if there is one date associated with a recording, it goes in a directory with that date. If it is on multiple dates, its a date range as the name of the directory. If the date is not known, I put as much information as I can. E.g., if all I know is that it is from February, 1986, I would place it in a directory named: 1986-02-00.

I structure mine a little differently. I have main folders for audio & video. Inside them I have a folder for each year and then it is organized my MMDD. For example...
Smiths Audio
>1983
>1984
>1985
.....>1985 0227 Chippenham
.....>1985 0228 Civic Hall Guilford
I keep the year in the show folder name just in case something strange happens. I use MMDD format because it keeps them in order by month & date and, well, I'm American. I have no idea why Europeans use DDMM.

Hmmm, maybe because it's a logical format to use, day, month, year - natural order - small medium large. Same as hours, minutes, seconds.
what's so logical about month, day, year - medium small large ???

When it comes to organising torrents YYMMDD makes more sense as it puts 12th October with 13th October not 12th January but in real life DDMMYY is the one.

How can DDMM be the best? Like you said, you end up with Jan 1st, Feb 1st, Jan 2nd, Feb 2nd....
Why wouldn't you want Jan 1st, Jan 2nd, Feb 1st, Feb 2nd....
Definitely agree that YYYY should be at the front, so you're not totally nuts....
