Aged 20, I first heard The Smiths on John Peel's Radio 1 programme and saw them live for the first time supporting Howard Devoto at The Lyceum Ballroom in Strand, London. I remember buying a bootleg tape of the gig at Brixton Ace at Camden Market around September 1983 and literally playing it to death that Autumn! I just fell head over heels "in love" with The Smiths. Vocally, instrumentally, the subject matter of the songs, the poetry of the lyrics - everything about them felt so.........different! I'm sorry I can't offer anything else to this website other than reminiscences.
