//Hand In Glove After Glasgow, we set off to Newcastle, where we were staying the night with Paul's sister in Jesmond (he's a Geordie lad). We were there by lunch-time and Paul spent the afternoon showing us around the town centre. We didn't go to the venue until the evening and went in just after the support band had finished playing. I must admit I don't remember this gig that well. Paul was recording it, so I had nothing to do except enjoy myself ... but for one reason or another I don't think I really got into it. The Mayfair is a bit of an odd venue I thought. I imagine it's actually a dancehall or something. You come in on an upper level looking down on a large squarish room. There's a railing running right round the upper level with stairs leading down to the 'dancefloor'. It would have been a great place to film from ... a pity we didn't try. The stage was set up at one end of the hall ... and you could see 'backstage' if you were upstairs at the back ... although that was just a small bit of open space leading to a door, so not really much to see. I remember nothing of the concert itself, except that it was quite antagonistic. There wasn't a great atmosphere in the crowd itself and I spent most of the evening watching from upstairs. I think this was the show where the 'lout' element starting turning up for the first time, intent on causing some trouble. There was some element of this in all the shows from now on, except perhaps London and Manchester ... and it would end up stopping more than one show completely. There were still the devoted Smiths fans down the front ... these guys would stand towards the back, shouting silly comments, and throwing things at the stage. Still Paul managed to get quite a good recording. I think he used the same equipment that he used to record the Glasgow Soundcheck. So a Panasonic walkman with a small mic plugged in the top. This is not from the master, but my 1st gen copy.

Hi, is there any chance someone could seed this (and 1984-03-07 Newcastle)? I'm trying to compile a birthday present for a friend who was at both shows and probably has no idea that audio copies are circulating :) Any help would be much appreciated!
