This was our second trip to Dublin to see the Smiths, and this time we took our car over with us, so be could drive up to Dundalk and Belfast. We arrived in plenty of time to find a hotel and check in, before setting out to find the Venue for the soundcheck. The National Stadium is actually a boxing stadium (I think) rather than a football Stadium ... so indoor, and considerably smaller. There didn't seem to be a stage or back door, just entrances along the main street, so we waited there. Presently the Smiths arrived, signed autographs, posed for pics and chatted ... before disappearing in for the soundcheck. There was no way we were getting in ... so we left it at that.
The show itself was great. The venue was all seated ... positioned in a sort of amphitheatre arrangement. But no seats for the guest list, and there were very eager venue ushers trying to keep the aisles clear, which didn't bode well for recording. As it was, as soon as the band came on the audience went crazy. The Aisles filled with people, who all pushed towards the front, and any ushers/security were consumed with keeping people off the stage. I slipped into a nice empty area of the seating and settled down to record the show. The crowd were all up for a good time, and the atmosphere was great. The security managed to keep people off the stage until the last encore, when they could hold them back no longer. There was a regular stream of stage invaders, sometimes a few at a time, all trying to hug Morrissey ... sometimes making it hard for him to actually sing. But a great ending to the show.
Again this was recorded using my Sony Professional Walkman with Sony EMC-929LT Mic onto Metal tape

Thanks a lot Steve.
I bought this from you i think (unless someone was bootlegging you) back in 86. Johnny picture on the cover-hand written song titles-Soundsville logo.
I love this tape- takes me back to being 15. So really can't wait for this.
As ever, I thank you so much for this weekly trip to Smiths heaven.

no ... that was a bootleg. Our cover was a picture of Johnny and Morrissey we took in HMV in Aberdeen, with type written track listing inside. Logo on the back of the tape left hand side, with 'Tracks Listed Inside...' and quality rating on the right hand side.
The Belfast one had a Johnny cover.
Did you buy it in Camden? There was quite a bit of 'swapping' amounst the tape traders, some of whom couldn't be bothered to do a new cover.
We were based outside the barbers shop, a couple of shops up towards the station from Rhythm Records ... almost on the crossroads.

Thanks seems to not be enough for what you continue to bring to us, these gems are priceless.
Excuse the comparison (but I feel it's the only way to say it), but you are like the Vin Scully ** of Smiths gigs and stories that follow them, seriously.
** Los Angeles Dodgers' baseball radio announcer, who is able to give a picture of the game if all you have is a radio and no TV **
[shit! I never meant age  - just your ability to do what you do :) ]

Hi Steve,
I bought it from an advert in the back of Melody Maker. But I have spend a good few pounds in Camden on tapes etc.
in those days.
The joy of getting Bigmouth etc, well before release was great.
Now I know that my copy was a copy makes sense. It runs a whole step fast.
It's downloading now and I can't wait to hear it. Thanks.
