There's really not much to add to last weeks account. The show itself was a bit of an anti-climax after recording the soundcheck. The venue was all seated, which is always a problem for people on the guest list. We were ushered upstairs, but the strange arrangement of groups of seats in booths meant that it was almost impossible to stand anywhere unobtrusively. So I spent the first few songs shuffling awkwardly around, trying to not look as if I was recording. Luckily most of the venue staff upstairs seemed to be middle aged ladies, who didn't seem too concerned, and after a couple of songs, some king people invited me into their booth. The band played ok, but the show never really caught light. Asleep was almost a non-event. It was a very quiet performance, and most of the crowd seemed to be unaware that it was anything special. There was a noticeable increase in the level of audience chatter as the song progressed - certainly in the balcony, and the majority of the crowd didn't really re-engage until Hand In Glove kicked in.
Not the best show in the tour, but the soundcheck had made this date quite special, and I don't think the Smiths played with quite the confidence and passion they did on this tour again. There were other great shows to come ... but I think the behind the scenes hassles that were looming in 86 meant that the on tour atmosphere was never as care-free and optimistic as it was in Scotland in 1985
Again this was recorded using my Sony Professional Walkman with Sony EMC-929LT Mic onto Metal tape

Thanks Steve...
By the way the MP3 concert that is circulated sounds like yours at times, but sometimes not quite, and it includes "Rusholme Ruffians" while this doesn't. This you record that song?
thanks,
Stephane

I must admit I just copied the set-list from your wonderful web-site. I'll dig out the tape tonight and have a look ... although if its not there I guess I didn't record it.
I remember having a few problems at the start of the show before I found somewhere to stand unobtrusively, but I think that meant crap recording, rather than missing a song. I don't believe I would have missing recording a whole song at the end of the set. Looking at the set-list, it does look a bit out of place at the end of the main set
I'll see if there are any clues on the tape

Steve,
I think you're right. The song does look out of place there. And "Bigmouth Strikes Again" makes more sense as main set closer. Also I rechecked your recording and it is very unlikely that you would have dropped one song right there, or forgotten to include it. I'll remove that title from the track listing.
thanks again,
Stephane

listening to the tape it really doesn't sound like there's a song missing, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't played. I'll edit my first post.
